What is the age limit for Roller City?
In Roller City, we recommend that skaters are aged 8 and over. From our experience and unless they have skated before, those who are 6 or 5 years and under find it quite a challenge to skate.
What is the babes-in-arms policy?
Babes-in-arms (children aged 12 months or under) are allowed free into Roller City.
Can I bring my own food into Roller City?
We’re sorry but we do not allow customers to consume their own food on the premises except for Exclusive Party hires.
Do you have lockers in Roller City?
We provide locker facilities in Roller City solely for your use during the duration of your skating session or party. However there is a 20p non-refundable charge during the period of use.
Why do you charge a spectator fee?
Parents and guardians are admitted as spectators and adults who are responsible for the behaviour and wellbeing of the child in their care and must maintain supervision at all times.
We charge spectator fee for the following reasons:
• Having paying spectators is crucial in managing admissions and meeting health and safety requirements which are essential to the operation of Roller City. Knowing and controlling how many people are in the facility and using it help in the management of emergencies and users experiences.
• To prevent potential misuse by the public who will walk in as spectators and skate on the rink without paying. Their dishonesty is unfair to the venue and those who pay to use the facility.
• To mitigate against concerns about child protection and for the safety of children.
• There is a cost associated to maintaining the utilities in the facility (lights, heating, toilets, cleaning) which is used by everyone inside irrespective of whether they are a participant or spectator.
• There are liability and insurance requirements - while in our facility, spectators are covered in the event of an accident connected to the use of Roller City and we incur costs in providing this coverage.
Do you allow wheelchairs on to the roller rink?
Yes, we do but only if the carer supervises the wheelchair and the user at all times and the carer wears shoes and not skates whilst on the rink. We can provide a ramp up to the rink entrance as there is a very small step at the entry and exit point.
Please ask a member of the Front of House team in Roller City for the ramp when you arrive. In Roller City, the wheelchair patron only pays for 1 ticket while the companion goes in free.
Here are some key points to be aware of when using your wheelchair at the roller rink:
The person pushing a wheelchair must be on foot (not skates) – this is so you can stop and turn quickly.
Everyone on the rink must travel in the same direction, at an appropriate speed for the session and remember to keep moving on the rink.
We don’t allow anyone to be pulled along by wheelchairs.
How do I get involved with Hell's Belles?
Roller City is the official sponsor and home of Hertfordshire Roller Derby’s A-team – Hell’s Belles Roller Girls. Join the Belles every Wednesday at 8.15 pm for a practice session. The Belles bout against other leagues on a regular basis. Public bouts are family friendly and exciting to watch.

Roller derby is known for its refreshingly inclusive and friendly culture and the sport attracts people from all walks of life. To give the game even more colour, derby players often take on quirky alter ego names and derby persona. Hertfordshire Roller Derby (HRD) members range in age from 18 to mid 40's.

Do you allow alcohol in Roller City?
Alcohol is only allowed during the 18+ session and Exclusive Roller City Party, and all alcohol must be purchased from Humphrey’s bar.
Alcohol is not allowed in any other Roller City public session or skate party.
Who do I contact regarding lost property?
We keep a record of any lost property found in our screens, rink, theatre, play areas and bars or other parts of the building. We recommend you email hello.campuswest@welhat.gov.uk
Can I take photographs in Roller City?
Photography or any form of video recording is NOT permitted in a public session or party in a session at Roller City. The only exception where this is allowed is during an exclusive party in Roller City.
Can I bring my own equipment to play music or any other appliance to heat or cook my food?
No. We do not allow any external equipment even though they are PAT tested.
For music you can share your Spotify playlist with us if you have one. Just email it to hello.campuswest@welhat.gov.uk and we will make sure it is all set up and ready on the day of your party.
Can I light candles on a birthday cake at my child’s party in Roller City?
Under NO circumstance can candles be lit in Campus West.
Can I bring an entertainer to my child’s party?
You are able to bring an entertainer to an Exclusive Party in Roller City, however unfortunately it is not possible for a skate party during a public skate session.
